Farm Talk: CSA Week 3

We have peas! And, honestly, these are the biggest and fattest peas we’ve ever seen. All the rain this spring has been awesome for brassicas and spring crops and we’re unexpectedly loving it too! Main season crops are also looking great. This year we put tomatoes on raised beds, like everything else, and covered the wheel tracks with black landscape fabric. The combination of high and dry conditions and the radiant heat coming off the fabric is creating stellar conditions for early tomatoes. Most of the plants are already flowering and we’re potentially looking at our first cherries rolling in by the end of July, which would be nuts! Cucumbers are suffering a little more cucumber beetle damage than we’d like but after the first blush the next round should be growing faster than the beetles have time to munch. More updates to come!
